A misdemeanor charge can wreak havoc in a person's life. Although the charges may not be thought of in the law as serious, the collateral consequences of even minor charges can shape a person's life for years to come. At this session, we will review the basics of litigating a misdemeanor charge. Topics include the basic travel of the case, bail issues, preservation of evidence and discovery, alternative dispositions, pleas, dispositive motions, trials and appeals. The speaker will also provide a brief discussion of immigration issues that come up in criminal cases. The program will prepare you to effectively litigate misdemeanor charges and help you keep a sharp lookout for issues that may help you dispose of your case successfully.
