This seminar will provide you with the basic information you need to handle a criminal case in Rhode Island from arrest to sentencing. Our panel of experienced practitioners will share their strategies for preparing a case and interviewing clients, obtaining information and preparing motions. They will review the jurisdictional differences in Superior and District Courts, the Superior Court benchmarks for felony cases, and alternative sentencing.

You will learn how to handle a bail hearing, prepare a pre-trial motion, and identify the ethical issues you may encounter. The speakers will also bring you the latest information on administrative orders, case law, legislation, e-filing and limited scope representation. This seminar is designed for new attorneys or attorneys new to criminal practice. It is a unique opportunity to hear from experienced practitioners and pick up some helpful hints, practical advice, and insight into the subtleties of practice in Rhode Island.

This program has been approved for credit towards the recertification of court-appointed counsel. It satisfies five hours of the CLE requirement for criminal panels.
