Fair Housing Issues in Rhode Island - IN PERSON
Additional Information:
Federal and state fair housing laws prohibit discrimination in the rental, sale, or financing of dwellings because of race, sex, familial status, religion, disability, and other protected classes.

Is it also illegal to refuse to rent to those who have service animals or those who use medical marijuana? What if there is a no smoking or a no pet clause in the rental agreement? What happens when a complaint is filed alleging unfair housing practices? This program will review recent updates in the law including current protected classes, liability, covered properties, harassment and retaliation, sexual harassment, and reasonable accommodations. There will be a review of regulations and procedure at the Commission and best practices at the agency.
