Fee Arbitration

It shall be the duty of this Committee to resolve fee disputes between bar members and their clients or between bar members. A voluntary program serving both bar members and the public, the aim is to reduce ethics complaints and build public confidence in the justice system. Depending upon the amount of money in dispute, matters are heard by a single arbitrator or a panel of three arbitrators. All arbitrators are volunteers, and arbitration decisions are binding on the parties. All committee proposals and recommendations for administrative, policy, or rule changes, or formal positions must be reviewed and approved by the Executive Committee. Any legislative activities must follow the protocol outlined in the Chairpersons' Guide. All RIBA committees are encouraged to report, at least quarterly for publication in the RI Bar Journal, the significant issues and ideas being discussed in its committee.
