The Rhode Island Bar Association's 2017 Annual Meeting is on Thursday and Friday, June 15th and 16th, at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The meeting provides attendees with outstanding opportunities to learn, to improve your practice, socialize with your colleagues, and fulfill annual CLE requirements. A wide range of 38 seminars offer guidance in family, corporate, probate, criminal, trial and commercial law, a variety of ethics-related topics, the popular State and Federal Court updates and more. These seminars are enhanced by the participation of many distinguished and accomplished presenters, including many of your colleagues. We also have many exhibitors who offer a range of practice-related products and services.

This year, our Thursday Morning Plenary speaker is Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., one of the nation’s premier Supreme Court and appellate advocates, and former Solicitor General of the Obama Administration. Attorney Verrilli will discuss what litigating before the Supreme Court in a time of transition and the current political climate means for our nation’s legal evolution. And, our Friday Afternoon Plenary speaker, Stuart B. Teicher, Esq., Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center, promises to entertain by revealing how the music, attitude, and lifestyle of legendary trumpeter Miles Davis allow us to learn about certain fundamental concepts in ethics.

On Thursday night, during a reception, Bar award winners are lauded for outstanding achievements. On Friday, the Bar honors members who have achieved 50 years of service in the profession and bestow the Chief Justice Joseph R. Weisberger Judicial Excellence Award. An address on the State of the Rhode Island Judiciary is delivered by Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell, and, the Bar welcomes incoming Rhode Island Bar Association President Linda Rekas Sloan.
