RIBA President Opposes Proposed Elimination of Funding to the Legal Services Corporation

04/03/2017 - Following the news that the proposed 2018 federal budget would eliminate funding for the Legal Services Corporation, Rhode Island Bar Association President Armando E. Batastini, Esq. has issued the following statement.

“The Rhode Island Bar Association strongly opposes the elimination of federal funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), the largest funder of civil legal aid in the country. LSC is a crucial organization that coordinates legal assistance for low income Americans including veterans, senior citizens, disaster victims and domestic abuse victims.”

“Rhode Island lawyers have a long history of providing legal pro bono work to the most vulnerable members of our community. Defunding LSC greatly hinders the work that our attorneys do every day on behalf of low income residents. The Rhode Island Bar Association strongly supports the LSC and efforts to ensure that every American has access to justice.”
