2018 Annual Meeting Workshops Address Current Issues in the News

06/08/2018 -There are only eight days left to pre-register for the 2018 Rhode Island Bar Association Annual Meeting, to be held on June 21 & 22 at the Rhode Island Convention Center. This year's meeting is one you won't want to miss! As always, we are offering the popular state and federal court updates, but this year many of our workshops are related to recent news headlines.

According to CNN: "Sacramento police officers shot and killed a black man in his grandmother's backyard because they believed he was pointing a gun at them, police said...Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg told reporters Thursday that Clark's death warrants a thorough review of the shooting, and of police policies and procedures." Our Thursday afternoon workshop "Officer Involved Shootings and Pursuits: Law, Litigation and Best Practices" discusses the disconnect between the law and public expectations.

According to The Washington Post: "June has unofficially become opioids month for lawmakers and policymakers in Washington who are gearing up to pass legislation and run ads targeted at the massive and growing problem of opioid addiction and overdose in the United States." We are offering two workshops related to opioid abuse: Thursday morning's "From Havard to Hell...and Back: A Doctor's Journey through Addiction to Recovery," and Friday afternoon's "The Highs and Lows of Opioids in the Workplace."

According to NBC news: "Former President Bill Clinton is acknowledging that his combative response earlier this week to questions about Monica Lewinsky wasn't his 'finest hour'." Our Thursday afternoon session "Sexting, Lying, Denying: Sexual Harassment in the Workplace" discusses why this issue keeps happening and ideas on how to prevent it.

For more information, and to review the rest of our workshops, please see the Annual Meeting brochure and registration form, also available on our website, ribar.com.
Completed registrations, with full payment, must be returned to the Bar by mail or fax, no later than June 15th.

There are only a few weeks left until the June 30th CLE compliance deadline! You can fulfill all your credits for the year by attending both days of our Annual Meeting.
